Since 2017, we have worked closely with East Multnomah SWCD on their StreamCare Program that assists private landowners to establish and enhance riparian buffers through eastern Multnomah County. We helped re-organize their tracking and data program, to streamline the working relationship between client and contractor. By creating a shareable database of site locations and reporting forms to combine with EMSWCD’s detailed site maps, we were able to efficiently and independently conduct work on over 100 sites in the past five years.
With this system in place, Mosaic has conducted the site prep, plant installation, and/or maintenance of riparian habitat in the Big Creek, Smith Creek, Beaver Creek, Buck Creek, Johnson Creek, and Bonnie Brook Watersheds. By enhancing or restoring riparian buffers of tributaries, water is filtered, cooled, and the discharge to larger rivers such as The Sandy is slowed. This contributes to healthy rivers and benefits local fish and other animal populations.
